Life in Rye NH

Like many locations along the Seacoast, Rye is a beautiful community situated an hour north of Boston, MA, an hour south of Portland, ME and an hour from the foothills of New Hampshire’s White Mountains. There are three key events in Rye’s history, dating back to 1623 marking the permanent settlement in New Hampshire at Odiorne Point. In 1726, Sandy Beach – as Rye was known then – was voted to be named the Parish of Rye. The actual name of Rye did not come into being until 1785 when an act of the legislature made it a wholly separate and independent town.

Boasting the longest stretch of New Hampshire’s coastline, Rye offers stunning views. Rye is also comprised of four of the nine islands known as the Isles of Shoals just off of the Rye coastline. While New Hampshire’s coastline may be short in mileage, it is robust with ways to enjoy it.
